Bylaws

The Ithaca Tenants Union Bylaws explain how we operate. You can read them below. They can be updated by the Steering Committee or the membership, with information dictated below.

Projects

  • Help Line - helping Ithaca area tenants with questions and concerns about housing issues, via a variety of methods.

  • Tenant Outreach & Court Support - reaching out to tenants about building organizing and eviction court, and providing mutual aid support for people facing eviction court.

  • Good Cause Campaign - campaigning to pass a law in Ithaca in 2024 to guarantee lease renewals and end no-cause evictions.

  • Rent Control (ETPA) Campaign - building organizing and legislative campaign to pass rent control for 1,500 units in the City of Ithaca.

  • Workshops - putting on public workshops on how to get back security deposits, and on general information for first-time renters.

Coalition Work

  • Housing Justice for All - statewide and upstate NY-specific coordination for legislative campaign and tenant organizing support.

  • Ithaca Solidarity Slate - electoral politics coalition with the Tompkins County Working Families Party Club and the Ithaca Democratic Socialists of America chapter.
